Base Jumping Deaths

Between 1981 and 2011 there have been 176 recorded deaths related to base jumping (as of 26. September 2011). 28 of those where recorded in Lauterbrunnental a famous base jumping location in Switzerland. If you count every death (from first jumpers to professionals) 5% of all base jumpers die. Though wikipedia quotes the current rate at one in sixty or one in 2,317 jumps.

Famous Base Jumpers deaths:

•    Dwain Weston died at the Royal Gorge Bridge on  October 5th, 2003
•    Ueli Gegenschatz died in 2009 (on November 11th) after jumping off the Sunrise Tower in Zurich
